That Moments - 1

In this post I'd like to share the rare moments of Istanbul with you. These moments are those that go unnoticed with the rush of daily routines. But on the other hand these are the moments that make you forgot all matters for a while and enjoy the life and its beauties. Here is a couple of such moments that I photographed, I hope you enjoy them as I do:

The Place I Live

I'm living and working on the Anatolian (Asian) side of Istanbul. My home is in Kadikoy disctrict (named Khalkedon in ancient times) and my office is in Uskudar. Kadıkoy and Uskudar are two neighbour districts and my home and office are on the borders of these two districts, so I can walk from home to work and vice versa in 15 minutes. Every day I get up around 8 o'clock and get out for work around 8:30.

Between the office and the home there is a big park, which is called Ogretmenevi Korusu, this is a small woody area where locals come for jogging etc. Geography of the area is a little bit rough, there is an uphill and a downhill. But the scenery is fascinating.

You can see trees and sea on the horizon. Also surrounding buildings makes a contrast with the nature of the park but not spoiling that much.

In fact, when I come to the park I feel like entering an oasis, because you cannot say that there is such a woody area in this region without seeing with your eyes.

The park is somewhat hidden from the outside. A small valley hidden deep in the center of the city. I feel relieved when come here. So going to work and returning to home passing through the park is always a stress eliminating journey for me.

Sometimes you bump to a suprise while walking with thoughts in your head and smile to such occasions.

And after all, I feel lucky to live in such a region and see such beauties of the nature. These are the moments that I felt being a part of the environement and cannot live without it. When I think of the affects of humanity on nature and earth itself I become terrifed and afraid of the reaction that the earth will show to us.

I wish you a good day and happy new year.

Graffiti of Istanbul

The walls cannot talk but people make them talk. The walls gain personalization through graffiti. When a single letter, even a line is put on a wall, that wall transforms to another entity from a simple seperator of property or possession.

So I'd like to share a very tiny portion of Istanbul's underground voice with you. And remember, these are only the tip of the seen part of the iceberg. For the ones that contain text, I will give their English translation beside them.

Let's start with a classic:

says: Prince charming, don't bother to come!
(probably written by a girl who was waiting her prince)

I call them "Three gazers" because....they are gazing!

This is another gazer:
active collective - heads chase dreams!
says: "The Association of the Ones Who are Afraid of Telling the Truth "

says: "An image cannot be real!"

says: "Speak"

This is pretty much "universal" i presume.

That's all for now. I will post new ones when I go out and collect them. I'll see you around.

On Air!

"Two Sides of Istanbul" is on-air from now on! You are wellcome. As i mentioned in the description of the blog you are invited to see, learn and enjoy Istanbul. I will try to guide you through my perspective. I will tell what I see and thought about Istanbul and "in" Istanbul. Looking at something from outside tells something and looking from inside tells another. So I will try to tell from the inside. This is no doubt a challenge for me, but only such challenges enforces self-improvement and also I must admit that I will enjoy this challenge. So let's rock'n'roll, I hope you'll enjoy your short visit here and come back again. I will try to update the blog biweekly. So check periodically to see the new postings.
